I hate the price of some of those Dogfish Head brews, but I've always wanted to buy one each of their 60/90/120 min IPA to compare & contrast - not

oh there is plenty to compare/contrast between the 60 and 90 min
the 120 min isnt even an IPA at all, its just booze and beer mixed togehter the alcochol is way too fucking strong to be able to catch any nuance at all 60 and 90 min however are at the top of their class (for me) for their respective styles

the 60 and 90 minute would be great to sit down and contrast also cause they are such wildly different brews
just the sheer difference in flavor is way more dramatic than in other ipa/iipa same-brewery comparisons, such as stone, lagunitas, etc I only had a 60 minute one time that I remember, I thought it was ok but I was kinda disappointed the reason why though is it had like a pine funk to it that I've run into (and been bothered by) similarly in a couple other very high-end brews nogne o winter ale is the prime example of this I know the 90 minute very well on the other hand it's an awesome brew but it's kind of an odd duck in bottles it's one of my favorite ipa/iipa's ever but I don't like it nearly as much on tap for some reason it's like the hops have a totally different 'character', for lack of a better word, when on tap it doesn't taste like more hoppy (or less), it just hits the palette differently, and the result is the strong abv% is masked way less by the hops tastes boozy and bitter to me, although that sounds worse than it is, it's still good just not the same I remember satan spoke highly of dogfish head's burton baton but I was really taken aback by this brew (in a bottle) for the exact same reason I wish I had the opportunity to drink that one more than once because it was one of the wildest most complex beers I ever had, but the flavor was so thick and strong that I literally didn't know how to deal with it 12 ounces was not deep enough for me to ever come to a conclusion on that one rabble rabble sorry dudes it's not the dogfish head thread, I know...

excellent thoughts beam
burton baton is definately high on the booze factor due to the wood aging the type of beer that really would have turned me off a year ago but now i can appreciate if not love 60 minute does indeed have a strange hop character maybe its due to the 'hop x' that they use -- they dont even say what the full blend is! and the 90 min is strong on willamette, that is one of the only hops i can truly recognize by taste besides cascade and some of the common ones willmaette is very unique and has to me an almost coffee like acidity, it is not citric whatsoever which is what does make 90 minute the most unique IIPA out there, even if a person doesnt like it you must admit there is nothing else out there that is remotely similar and i think if you tried 60 minute again you wouldnt be disappointed one of the most sessionable yet thought provoking beers ever

After reading that I realized I was fucked up in the head and was thinking I had tried the 120 ipa and liked it, and couldn't fathom 165 not liking it.
Now I realize I am a dolt and it was the 90 minute I was thinking of, and that ive never actually had the 120. The 90 is

The 90 Minute is an absolute favorite around here. The 120 was too much of everything - including the price.

My 1st real experience with Dogfish Head was their Liquor de Malt 40oz. My reviews, notes & comments on it (copy & pasted from the Archive):
Starting in the summer of 2004 this brew has been released once a year to a super limited 300 cases. Each year I'm lucky enough to score a few bottles. It's sold with a hand-stamped, "Dogfish Head" brown paper bag.

I got a six of the 60 minute IPA yesterday
Very diffrent than the 90 minute, its taste more like a medium hoppy IPA, and is similar to the rogue stone IPA in my opinion. I only had one just to try it, I will drink the other 5 tomorrow and try and work the flavors out some more

I stopped buying DFH for that reason, the price is ridiculous, I have to have a mad craving to even consider it anymore

I have gotten the 9.99 worldwide stout a couple of times. 10 dollar for a 12 ounce bottle is ridiculous but it's crazy stuff. anywhere from 18 to 23% alc
depending on which one you get. it was actually on tap around here somewhere which is ridiculous but I didn't get down there
