You guessed it. Even Corona has a 40oz beer. Coming from Texas, we get all the varities of Mexican beers. Unfortunately, we only get the 24 and 32oz bottles here in the States. They don't import the 40oz to the United States and it can only be found south of the boarder. But I was lucky, my manager bought 25 of these in Mexico, brought them back to Houston, and gave me one to try after work.
This Corona is a completely different beer than it's Corona Extra counterpart. It's Corona's value beer. The best anology I can think of is, Corona Extra is to Miller MGD, as Corona Familiar is to Miller Highlife. It doesn't come in the traditional American 40oz glass bottle, but the Mexican 32oz brown bottle style. Now on to the beer, Corona Familar is without a doubt, my favorite Mexican beer even though I've only had it once. And I think Corona would have a big winner in the United State's if they ever imported this brand here.
Familar has a distincively dark, thicker, and richer taste when compared to Extra. But still a slight, Mexican import taste. It could almost pass as an American beer in a blind taste test. From first sip to last, it's very enjoyable. Almost unheard of in a "value beer." If your ever south of the border, I highly recommend you pick up a couple of these. You will be shocked at how great it taste.
It was around Christmas last year I had the opportunity to drink Corona Familiar and I don't have the actual bottle. Rest assured, it was a 40oz bottle in the 32oz bottle style. When my manager showed me the beer/bottle, I was shocked that Corona even made a 40oz bottle. Much more so than they had a "value brand" in Mexico. There's a good chance I'll be in Mexico for a day during this Spring Break, and if I have the opportunity, I'll grab the 25 40oz limit to bring back to the States. Plus I'll send you a fresh one since I'm a huge huge malt liquor/bad beer fan
